Biomechanical Analysis TT Position

Postby Walshy » Wed Mar 10, 2010 5:53 pm

Hey NSTCers!!

As many of you know I'm hunkering down into a sports science degree at the moment and loving every minute of it... except the exams and assignments etc. What this means in short is that I'm doing heaps of research in the fields of exercise physiology (what happens inside you when you exercise) and biomechanics (how you move and how your muscles work).

I am conducting a research assignment for biomechanics this semester that involves an analysis of the cycling time trial position. I need 5 to 10 healthy fit trained triathletes to partake in the study. For you, it involves coming to the biomechanics lab at ACU Strathfield for a testing session that will be announced after expressions of interest have been shown.

What you get:

A mechanical analysis and comparison of joint velocities at Hip knee ankle.
A muscle length analysis
EMG analysis looking at "when" your muscles are switching on and in what order they are switching on.

Recommendations to improve on your position which could lead to improvements in your time trial performance through increases in power output.

The testing will more than likely be on a Sunday afternoon before the end of the month.

Call me if you'd like more information.

Hey Walshy

as discussed, I would be interested, but it would depend on day & time. Don't throw all your toys out of the pram!!

Hey Walshy,

Sorry if I sounded relunctant, when we spoke. It's just that I fear my "biomechancically challenged" (ie broken-down, old!!) body may be the source of some mirth amongst a group of real athletes!!  And any way, except for day after tomorow, my remaining Sundays for this month are booked -up...and then it's Easter!....then I'm volunteering for the World Champs OD race on Sun 11th!!.

But if you end-up with a date from Sunday 18 April onwards - I'll give you a giggle! ;)

Maybe it wouldn't be biomechanically broken down with an analysis done to see what's going on :P

Hi Simon,
Ben and I would happily be involved depending on day and time too.
